This envelope was posted in Seattle to Worcester in Massachusetts and carried on the mail plane piloted by RT Freng on the CAM 18 route operated by Boeing Air Transport between San Francisco and Chicago. On 11 March 1929 the plane crashed during a snowstorm at Park City in Utah, and the mail was recovered slightly singed. The mail was taken to the post office at Dutton, where this fine cachet in violet (one of two cachets used) was applied, and then forwarded from Salt Lake City.
