Delhi, 1936

This official envelope from London was recovered in a scorched condition from the Imperial Airways Armstrong Whitworth XV Atalanta Class plane ATHENA G-ABTK.  A printed note records that the plane caught fire on 29th September 1936 en route to Singapore. This note was added by the Dead Letter office in Brisbane on 9th October where again the cachet “DAMAGED IN TRANSIT” was applied in violet.  A fine example of the official stamp of the Commonwealth Agent was applied in green on receipt at Government House in Brisbane.
