This damaged envelope from Aberdeen was recovered from the Imperial Airways Armstrong Whitworth XV Atalanta Class plane ATHENA G-ABTK.  A printed note records that the plane caught fire on 29th September 1936 en route to Singapore. This note was added by the Dead Letter office in Brisbane where the cachet “DAMAGED IN TRANSIT” was applied in violet. The cachet is also known in black.
