This cover was posted in Melbourne on 25 October 1862, addressed to Liverpool. It was on board the Colombo when it was wrecked and as can be seen here the letter and envelope were both badly damaged, and being held together by sealing wax and string. The envelope benefitted from two strikes of the boxed cachet in black. There are believed to have been four variations identified in the cachet used on up to 200 mail items recovered from this wreck.
