Watercolour Valentine 1

  • Digital Collection

1993-08-29

This large, watercolour valentine shows a picture of a soldier standing under a tree. The poem beneath reads: In the proud and tented field, The soldier's heart might scorn to yield, But the flashing eye of Beauty, Bends his heart to Love and Duty Dangers threaten o'er my heart, Love's alarms, their fears impart, Yet Love and Duty thus combined, Shall prove my fond and constan mind. Yes, - Love obeys, when duty calls, When Cupid storms, the Fortress fall, So captured - by such grace and form, Hymen hath took my heart by storm.
